A relaxed, inclusive long weekend in Amsterdam for the Geeks Go Peaks crowd — built for connection, not altitude.
We base ourselves in Amsterdam Noord — NDSM wharf, STRAAT, Pllek, De Ceuvel — the creative, post-industrial, non-touristy side of the city that fits us far better than the canal-belt tourist core.
We paddle the canals, melt into a floating sauna, and e-bike the flat Waterland countryside out to the island village of Marken, ferrying back across the water.
Two nights in buzzing Amsterdam Noord, great food, and time to actually talk to each other.
No experience, no training plan, no suffering — just show up. Timed right after Percona Live, so you can roll straight from the conference into the adventure.
Drop the bags at our base hotel in Amsterdam Noord — the city's creative, waterfront side.
In the evening we gather for a relaxed welcome dinner at the NDSM wharf, a former shipyard turned cultural playground right on the IJ. No agenda just yet: just good food, skyline views, and the chance to actually meet the people you'll spend the weekend with.
We start on the water with a guided stand-up paddleboard tour. It begins in a quiet canal so first-timers can find their balance before we glide past Amsterdam's bridges, houseboats and grand townhouses.
After lunch we trade the paddle for heat: a private floating sauna and cold plunge on the water — the classic Dutch reset, and a surprisingly good way to bond. The evening is yours over a long, unhurried group dinner.
Straight from the hotel, we roll out on e-bikes along flat, car-free dyke paths into Waterland — past the wooden houses of Broek in Waterland and Monnickendam — out to the former island of Marken.
There we load the bikes onto the Marken Express ferry and cross the water to the fishing village of Volendam before riding home. Along the way our guide tells the story of how the Dutch engineered their country out of the sea, with a stop for the legendary local apple pie.
Back in the city by mid-afternoon for goodbyes.

No. Everything is beginner-friendly. The SUP tour starts in calm water with instruction, and the cycling is on flat, car-free paths with e-bikes that do the hard work. If you can walk a few kilometres, can ride a bike, and you're willing to try a paddleboard, you're all set.
Yes — two nights (Friday and Saturday) at a 4★ hotel in Amsterdam Noord are included. Choose a twin/double (share a room) or a single (your own room) when you book. An extra night is available as add-ons.
Absolutely — most people do, and the whole weekend is built for meeting people. Solo bookers can take a single room, or choose the twin-share rate and we'll pair you with another guest.
Bring swimwear and a change of clothes for the SUP and sauna, a light layer for the bike, and comfortable shoes — we'll send a full packing list after you book, and your welcome swag includes a dry-bag.
The weekend runs rain or shine; if conditions ever make the water genuinely unsafe we'll swap in an alternative, and a weather buffer is built into the plan.
