the idea

Three volcanoes in ten days: La Malinche, Iztaccíhuatl and Pico de Orizaba, 5,636 m, the highest mountain in Mexico. We run it this December with our local guides, and we're bringing it back for 2027.

Pick your length. Module 1 is two summits in a week, no glacier. The full trip adds Orizaba on a rope team, then a rappel into a giant cave shaft with a waterfall.

Why December

December is the dry season on the volcanoes: stable weather, few storms and hard snow for crampons. Nights are cold, so bring a warm sleeping bag.

what this adventure is made of

The highest point in Mexico

Pico de Orizaba · 5,636 m

The third-highest mountain in North America. We sleep at a high camp at 4,700 m, so summit day is shorter. About half of all attempts fail, mostly on altitude. This trip is built for the other half.

The Sleeping Woman

Iztaccíhuatl · 5,215 m

A 3 am start along her long summit ridge, with Popocatépetl smoking next door and the lights of Mexico City below.

No glacier on Module 1

Into the Sótano de Popócatl

A cave shaft with a waterfall

The day after Orizaba we rappel down a huge shaft in the forest, with a 60 m waterfall falling next to you into an underground river. No caving experience needed.
