Route map

Out of the village, the trail climbs through forest and pasture to Crëp de Sela (1,867 m), then across rolling alpine terrain toward Col de Stagn (2,517 m), Piz Boè rising ahead. Just before the pass it skirts a small alpine lake — bracingly cold, a tempting polar-style plunge for the brave. From there it drops into the Vallon basin to Rifugio Kostner (2,550 m) for lunch.

Starting point: Parkplatz Pisciadù, Corvara in Badia (CAI parking, 46.54955°N 11.80926°E). The descent returns via the Val Setus gully to Passo Gardena — where Jimmi Hütte is waiting.

Take path No. 29 from the car park (20–30 min) to the cable section. Harness on, helmet on, lanyard clipped.

Sustained via ferrata — exposure builds steadily. Escape route to Pisciadù hut at halfway. Suspension bridge is the highlight.

Path 666 down through the steep Val Setus gully (~90 min). Keep via ferrata gear on for the upper cable-protected section of the descent. Then zigzag down the scree slope — straightforward but loose underfoot.

⚠️ The Val Setus descent has brief cable-protected sections — stay clipped until clear of the gully.

From Rifugio Castiglioni, the path climbs toward the glacier. Crampons on at the glacier edge — live glaciated terrain with crevasse risk. Guides rope teams here.

Cross the glacier to Forcella Marmolada (2,910 m), then the via ferrata Cresta Ovest (West Ridge) — fixed cables on exposed rock — to the Schena de Mul ridge and summit.

On a clear day: the Austrian Alps, Val di Fassa, the Brenta, Pale di San Martino, and the Adriatic Sea.
